New comers to RC are astonished at how exciting the area of radio controlled models have become in past few years with modern RCs reaching speeds of 60 mph and comprising multifaceted suspension and control systems that can make controlling the RC mush like the real thing. But by far, the best feature of the RC today has to be the vast variety of models to choice from.  Depending on your budget and your level of expertise, your choices are endless.

If you are going to be picking out your first RC, you need to keep in-mind a few key points:

1. Are you looking for a kit to build, or are you looking for something that is ready to operate?

If you decide to build your own, it can be very rewarding.  By building from the ground up, you will have the advantage of knowing all elements of you model.  You will be able to do general maintenance easier, and you will be able to make modification or tweaking your RC easier.  Like anything, start out slow and build up your expertise, it will help save you a lot of frustration by biting off more than you can chew to start with.

2. Are you going for an on-road or an off-road RC?

If you’re looking at running of paved surfaces, an On-road RC will be built for speed, control and racing.

The off-road RC are more designed for handling a more rugged terrain, doing stunts or obstacle courses.   Off-roads can also run on paved surfaces too, where as the on-road RCs usually will not be able to be run off-road.

3. What kind of power source are you looking for?

Most RCs are going to be electrically powered models that provide the easiest option and us batteries that are going to be rechargeable.

Other options can include options for the more advanced modeler.  These can include nitro powered engines, gas engines, even mini-jet engine models.  Again, it all will depend on your budget and level of expertise.

In almost every community across the country, you should be able to find RC clubs.  These are great resources for tips, ideas, help and fellow-hip.  RCs have come a long way from the early models.  Getting involved in this hobby can be very addicting and a great source of fun for you and the whole family.

Good point, fantastic blog. Listen, did you guys read about World of Warcraft looking to implement Real ID on the forum? It seems they came to the realization that that’s no way to win at wow, as they reversed their decision. Now we can all go back to enjoying World of Warcraft without stressing about compromised privacy. And they can return to focusing on Cataclysm. BooYAH!
